The National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, "is the nation's largest grassroots organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness." Not only is NAMI an amazing resource to find information on diagnoses and treatment, but they also promote local chapters that are committed to supporting people in their own communities.

NAMI-Huntsville -- Huntsville is home to a local chapter of NAMI. Programs offered locally include peer support groups, courses for loved ones caring for someone with mental illness, training for educators, and more.
Active Minds is a national organization committed to combatting stigma associated with mental illness, primarily through college campus advocacy and student engagement. Active Minds encourages open dialogue, facilitating candidness in talking about mental health and illness, & normalizing such issues in the process. If you are a student, consider getting involved on campus. Active Minds is a similarly great source of information for individuals, families, educators, & administrators. Check it out HERE.
